Earthscape: A Southnord Collection Exhibition
“…will you give yourself to the earth, or swallow it whole, …” - Alexandra Mitiku
Earthscape brings together eight diverse artistic practices preoccupied with landscape identity; ancestral memory; intertwined geographies; the relationship between land and body; consumerism and imperial capitalism. Through a variety of techniques from photography to painting, ceramics to textiles, the artists collectively and individually explore the environmental impact of modern society on the earth and on the human experience. A rock, a churning skyline, a geographic pole, clay, indigo, burnt wood, copper, petroleum and discarded clothes are the materiality that bring these transcultural perspectives into dialogue with each other.
Southnord’s second collections exhibition showcases the latest acquisitions in our ever-growing Afro-Nordic art collection. The artists included in this exhibition are Michelle Eistrup, Dyami Rafn Andrews, Liisa-Irmelen Liwata, Alexandra Mitiku, Marcia Harvey Isaksson, Viola Nimuhamya, Sasha Huber and Theresa Traore Dahlberg.
