Printworkshop for kids
About the workshop
This is an interactive hands-on printing workshop inspired by the children’s book Kokonainen Minä (Whole of Me). The book celebrates multilingualism, identity, and magical adventure. The children aged will hear an interactive reading of excerpts from the book, specifically focusing on the visual elements and specific setting. Thereafter, they will have the opportunity to design and print their own personalised, colourful bookmark filled with the symbols and visuals that represent their own story (roots, identity, language, etc). The child will take the printed bookmark home. All materials will be provided.
What parents can expect
Celebration of own identity, language, crafting, and reading! At this interactive event, children will listen to the story Kokonainen minä and share what makes them unique. They will design and decorate colourful cardstock bookmarks using stickers, illustrations, and multilingual words inspired by each child's own personal story. Parents can expect a friendly and creative atmosphere.
Tentative Program
The Interactive Story (about 15 mins)
Read excerpts from Kokonainen minä, specifically focusing on scenes where characters share their languages or talk to Kissa-Orava. Pause at the questions asked by Kissa-Orava to get the kids thinking about their own backgrounds, languages, and identities. If they are to travel to a magic land, what visual will represent their journey?
The Demonstration of basic work (10 Mins)
Show how the printing technique works. Demonstrate how to cut the bookmarks, add the ribbon, add the message and select visuals for the design. Encourage the children to stamp their symbols in a vertical line because bookmarks are long and narrow. Show the materials available
Creating the Personal style (15 Mins)
Ask each child to pick symbols and visuals that represent them. Stickers, cut-outs, colours, speech bubble
Designing and printing the Bookmark that represents their story (20min)
Design visual symbols that represent their unique languages, roots, and identity to create a beautiful "Whole of Me" print to take home
